Host Families are Everytiing
A host family is one of the most important and influential aspects of a ballplayer’s summer collegiate league baseball experience. While some of our players will be from the New York area, many will be in a brand new environment, away from their school and home.
Players arrive in mid-June and stay until the last week in July. They play baseball six days a week on the South and North sides of Long Island, and Shelter Island. Players are encouraged to work part-time jobs and participate in their local community.
The athletes are expected to respond to each families rules, whether it’s a curfew, cleanliness standards, or assigned chores. Summer baseball is like a “road test” for what it’s like to be in the majors. It is stressed that they are being judged not just on athletic performance but on the positive image they put forth.
Each player is a member in good standing with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), meeting all academic, athletic, and legal eligibility requirements.
Host families are required to supply a player with a room, bed, laundry facilities, and access to a kitchen. They are not required to provide transportation. The relationships forged between players and their host families are memorable and last a lifetime.
We can't run this league without the support of our host families!
